You only attend driver's ed once in your life, so make sure you select a good program; one that delivers what they promise, and one that cares about the quality of the learning experience!
I-5 Driving School was started in 2011 due to two parents' frustration with the quality of their teens' driving school experience. Since then, we have expanded our team to include teachers, psychologists, an auto insurance expert, a race car driver, a retired police officer, and a doctor in education.
Our commitment is to provide the best education possible that is fun, lighthearted, proactive, and informative. We want you to not only pass the state test, but become a confident and safe driver!
Teen driving courses meet the state requirement for 16 and 17 year olds to get their driver license. The course consists of of 34 classroom hours, (5) 1-hour driving lessons, and one lesson observation. Teens must pass the course final exam and the skills exam to earn a course completion. The complete course requirements are posted here.
Driving schools are required to meet a minimum standard for curriculum, but many schools are still using the minimum from over 20 years ago. Our company's founder sent his oldest child to a different driving school in the area, who would show an hour's worth of old videos in the first hour, then have them work by themselves on a photocopied workbook for the second hour. The instructor never spoke to the kids over the entire 30 hours! At the time, other schools in the area would simply read from the state driver guide booklet.
That's just not sufficient to learn all the aspects of driving, and it certainly isn't enough to keep our kids' attention. This school was founded on the promise that we should provide the most current, relevant, and interesting curriculum, along with hiring teachers who truly care about helping others. We don't tolerate grouches on our staff, and our instruction is entirely based on positive reinforcement and proactive teaching styles.
Visit them! We encourage visitors to come watch our classes in person, and see if we are a good fit for you. Ask other schools if you can audit their classroom sessions, and decide which style is the best fit. Call or email us for more details on visiting.
